An inclusive Church - everywhere

After many years of planning and building, the new Acute Services Building at Royal North Shore Hospital opened in December. Uniting Church Chaplain Julie Telfer was asked to organise a Multi-Faith Service of Dedication to mark this event.

It turned out to be a pretty special service, with Terrigal Uniting Church's string Concertante Ensemble there to provide magnificent music.

Chaplain's journal in aftermath of fires

"As you get closer to town the smoke gets thicker, lingering between trees and filling valleys. Then the smell of burnt bushland hits — 41,000 hectares. Lines of fire trucks and heavy earthmoving equipment trail along the Newell highway, deploying to the latest danger spot. It’s early Thursday, January 17."

Coonabarabran fire — reflections from Ross Wakeley, Chaplain at NSW Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network.

Synod Bushfire Appeal

The Uniting Church has launched two appeals to support people affected by the worst bushfires in New South Wales in over a decade.

Professor Dutney said, “The Uniting Church will be part of these communities as they rebuild and after the current crisis has passed.

“The disaster relief funds are means by which our church as a whole responds to people in need as they recover, so I urge church members to give generously.” Giving to the Synod’s Bushfire Appeal is not tax deductible but donations are gratefully received to help bushfire-effected families in New South Wales and the ACT. Please visit the website for more information.

FYI, donations of $2 or more to the National Disaster Relief Fund are tax-deductible.
